About me

Ed’s entire working career has been centred on the IBM i platform, beginning in IBM's AS400 Technical Support. Ed then moved into the ISV arena focusing on system optimization and high availability. For the last 16 years Ed has been in the IBM Business Partner world designing, deploying and supporting customers' mission critical IBM i workloads across many industries with differing challenges. Ed’s focus has always availability, RTO and RPO, and this journey has clearly identified the really important base issues of PTFs and Firmware maintenance. Further considerations of dual-VIOS and replication, starting with software based replication, but also embracing Storage Virtualise HyperSwap, external storage replication and Flashcopy, and more recently Cyber-resilience in the form of automated validation of immutable snapshots.
