Common Europe, in collaboration with Common Sweden, is delighted to be holding its annual flagship event, Common Europe Congress, in the friendly city of Gothenburg offering extensive education, networking and relaxation opportunities.
This presentation examines the expanding landscape of Open Source AI, focusing on its potential to drive innovation and accessibility. We will discuss key definitions, including the Open Source AI Definition (OSAID), which emphasizes the freedoms to use, study, modify, and share AI systems. A significant portion of the presentation will address the phenomenon of 'openwashing,' where AI products are falsely presented as open source. Common deceptive tactics, such as 'source available' releases and restrictive licensing, will be explored, along with practical guidance for evaluating the legitimacy of 'open' AI claims. Finally, we'll consider differing perspectives on Open Source AI as held by the OSI, FSF, Red Hat, and IBM, particularly focusing on their approaches to licensing, data transparency, and industry implementation. The overall goal is to provide clarity on the current state of Open Source AI and advocate for informed decision-making in its development and adoption
